"Bleeding out"
He could also stablize via a DC10 Constitution check (+1DC per hitpoint below zero).

Honestly, I find self-stabilization rules a bit confusing. Wouldn't he auto stabilize so long has he was 10 points away from death? Like, if he was at -3hp and had a constitution score of 15 he would auto-stabilize? If he was at -7 he would only need to roll a 2 to stabilize. That can't be right as it seems far too easy to stabilize yourself.

It does get quite easy to stabilize yourself at higher levels but it gets harder and harder to get within that range of 0 hp to dead, i've never seen it happen to anybody over lv 5.

It's 10+1 DC per hitpoint below zero, i.e. Each negative hitpoint is +1 DC:
If you're at -1, it's a dc 11 con check (assuming someone's got... a +3 con mod, about a 60% chance)
If you're at a -11 (with 16 con), you have to roll an 18+, so 15%.
Technically, at -14 and -15, you can't stabilize without some other bonus. A nat 20 won't help because ability checks don't auto succeed that way.
Without knowing what numbers he's at, it's hard to tell how hard it is.

2 divine casters, 0 healing spells prepared even in cantrip slots, wonder why wizards become paranoid contigency munchkins.

ah hah. So that's how it happened! Adin used the blackout as a cover to skin Phaedrus and wear him like a fleshy suit. Nobody suspects a thing! It's the perfect crime.

I'm pretty sure Kari will figure it out as soon as she's forced to make a perception check combined with Sense motive being the Metagaming gloryhog she is.

"Meteor Knight"
Ah, good times, good times. It's always interesting when characters start dying early. I played a gnome druid in a campaign who had been made the party healer since we didn't have a cleric. Anticipating this, I prepared the stabilize cantrip routinely. Then came our first big battle, and I fell below 0hp. All attempts to auto-stabilize failed. Fortunately, the fight was at a trading post, and ended quickly enough to obtain a potion of cure minor wounds, and my gnome druid survived.
