A guard who joined a riotous prison break rather than be slaughtered alongside their co-workers actually sounds like a pretty interesting background.

Have you noticed how little surrender comes up in games? Enemies either flee, or die. Players either flee or die. Yes, there is capture. But when do you ever really see a group of people when confronted with overwhelming force go: Okay, we surrender. We don't feel like dying.

Sometimes you have enemies surrender... And then once everyone is tied up the rogue goes

"Awesome! I slit their throats."

Doesn't exactly give them a merciful image.

Ugh, throat-slitting is so messy. There are methods for delivering a coup de grâce that don't involve arterial spray...

I've had a rogue cost us 5k out of a 10k bounty... I beat the guy unconscious with non-lethal damage. I told everyone else "Okay,he's knocked out, we can-" and then the rogue pipes in "Awesome! I lit his throat" and I finished "take him to the guards...."

I'm not against killing the enemy as a rule, but when you can get double the money by bringing them in alive, you should bring them in alive.

note this rule does not apply to enemy Rogues/Psions/Dragonfire Adepts/Druids/Wizards/Monks/Clerics/Sorcorers...... Pretyy much anybody except fighters, you can bring in fighters

Malroth The method used on those is a million points of non-lethal damage You put them in a coma and carry them in that way.

A lot of systems have not nonlethal damage spill over to lethal past a certain threshold. Comas are good, but I'd put some kind of magic nullifier on or around them too, to be sure.
