we're going to have to get an explaination of this quest mechanic because in a normal game if you're hired to kill the bandits and the villagers kill them before you arrive then you're not getting paid weither or not you wait around and find a second bandit group. Unless you've got a bluff/diplomacy specialist in the party then you do get paid weither it was you or the OP villagers that killed them.

The area's even reminiscent of some human farms in WoW that need purging of monsters.

Tell a story about kill stealing. I'll start us off.

Once upon a time, Ransu decided to have some fun at the expense of a general who hired him and decided not to pay.

The two armies lined up on the battlefield, the standards were raised, and the two commanding officers met in the middle of the field to discuss terms.

Nonpaying General: I see you have quite a nice force. Come on, give me your terms.

Opposing General: No terms today. I intend to kill you and destroy every last man who would dare stand with you!

While they're talking, Ransu dashes into the ranks of the general that stiffed him. Running around at top speed, he slit every throat within reach, and had half of them dead by the time the two generals noticed. The opposing army mistook the shouts of the the first army as the signal to attack, and charged forward.

Ransu, meanwhile, was zigzagging through the ranks and killing over a hundred a minute. By the time the opposing army got there, they found Ransu covered in blood. They turned around and went to surround the nonpaying general. Opposing general draws his sword and points it at him. "I surre-" Ransu had stabbed his former employer in the back as he was surrendering to someone not paying Ransu. He just stood there, looting the general's body, before he returned to rummage through the pockets of everyone else.

The opposing general was entirely dumbfounded by what he saw.

EDIT: For reference, this was a petty squabble between two lords. These were serfs, peasants... commoners. As in an army of level one commoners. Even a level four character could just mow them down.

even other lv 1 commoners could, course they're unlikely to still be lv1 at the end of said combat round

Poor serfs. My high esteem for Ransu has just taken a bit of a nosedive back into neutrality.

While not technically stealing, it was annoying.

We had a paladin that managed to kill both of our first bosses in a single shot. The first time it was a special situation, so it was actually cool and no one cared. But the second one, she hung around in the back and didn't do anything until we had really weakened the dragon, and then she killed it with one attack. We still all got treasure and XP, but it was annoying that someone who didn't put any effort into fighting it got the final shot.

In the Marvel Heroic group I am in, pretty sure I mentioned them a couple times before, I was playing as Hercules. Because Moon Knight kept on getting owned and I accidentally role played him into leaving the ranks of the other players. Due to the rules, I am able to play as both, but not at the same time.

Anyway, one of the players, he was playing a mutant called Armor and yes Armor from the X-Men comics but aged up, and was captured by HYDRA. For the umpteenth apparently. The group was together for half a year and I just joined a month ago. So, Hercules gets sent from Zeus to rescue Armor from HYDRA and I end up fighting HYDRA Captain America (Called Milltia) and HYDRA Thor (Called Hammer I think). I went into an epic brawl against both of them until the rest of the players arrived and HYDRA Hawkeye (Called Bowman I think) showed up as well. We continued fighting, Armor gets free, tries to help and I said no because THE MIGHTY HERCULES NEEDS NO HELP! And I called Armor a wench because Hercules doesn't realize that Armor can handle things on her own. Everyone laughs and we took a break to make sure if it was in character for Hercules to call Armor a wench (It was), and we continued.

When it was Armor's turn, the player controlling her decides that the wench comment got her mad so she grabs a tree and one shots Militia. I found it to be funny and the fight was going on for too long anyway. But Hercules did not take it kindly and holds a grudge against Armor to this day. So, it is more of IC rage than OOC rage on the team killing. Probably helps that you don't get XP for killing foes anyway. What? The characters are pretty much perfect as is. Heck, the only things I ever spent my XP on is getting more characters because I wanted more varity. Everyone in the group has at least one extra character along with their initial one.

Seriously, get Marvel Heroic. It is fun. It is a Cortex Plus system just so you have an idea what kind of game it is.
