Li'l bit expected to see you attached to the comic scowling suspiciously at the rest of us before stating "My puzzles!"

I tend to dislike puzzles because even when I know they're coming I can manage to screw it up and miss the solution. Not the puzzle's fault, not even a strike on my intelligence. I am just not perceptive when I'm trying to do something.

The biggest problem with puzzles in game, is that it tends to be the players solving them, not the characters. Or they come down to a simple dice roll, which is kinda boring.

You can have a character that has such a low intelligence score that they can barely talk... but if the player is good at puzzles, they can still solve them.

sadly true.

once made a 3-d puzzle box chest for a sify game, even looked up how to make puzzle boxes and made a 3-d lock. sadly, i had to actually MAKE that lock for them, since describing a 3-d puzzle makes them damn near impossible to solve.

they took one look at it, and sold the box to an interested party rather than try to bypass my lazer 3d puzzle. sure, i simply used normal paper to make it, so the pieces where kind of wobbly, but still. intricate pieces of puzzles gets solved by the players, not the chars. And this is one of the biggest problem with playing with a high mental stat in a game.

int 20? You are the guy that the guys at nasa goes to when they have a problem. but this simple sudoku key from the times have you stumped...

If the players are struggling, I might give hints via the high-int characters. However, I would like to think my friends are mostly pretty smart. Of course, most people believe they are above average intelligence...

I agree that giving puzzles to the characters but not the players can be difficult, and I think physically creating the puzzle is a good way to go about it (albeit, time consuming).

Because there's a certain range of detail you have to go into while describing the puzzle out loud. Too much, and the players will constantly be asking you to repeat things that the characters would readily be able to tell. Too little, and it's obvious what the key to solving it is.
