To be fair, once you have a couple levels under your belt the Expert class is WAY more versatile than the Warrior class, or Fighters for that matter.

Sure, experts can be versatile, as long as you don't want one of the things you do to be combat... and with the caveat that your versatility is limited by the lack of real class features.
Still, they can replace a rogue (except for the fact that nobody can find traps higher than dc 20 without a specific class features (for no discernable reason).
You can get spellcraft, but you can only use it to identify spells that are cast in front of you because you have no way to use detect magic.
You can use magic device... but if you want to use scrolls, you have about a 20-30% chance of activating a scroll with a caster level the same as yours, and only if you actually have enough of the required ability score.
In the case of combat, you're 5 feats behind warriors (Martial weapons, medium/heavy armor, shields/tower shelds). As an NPC you certainly won't have enough dexterity to benefit from light armor more than medium or heavy, and all simple weapons (with the exception of the longspear) have a strictly better martial version, putting you a damage die, a special ability, or crit threat range/multiplier behind. On the other hand, you're leagues ahead of a commoner, who gets the skill points and will save of a fighter, the hit points and reflex saves of a wizard, BAB and fortitude save of a sorcerer, and class features of "haha nope".
