...bone maybe? Bone of something harder and sturdier than typical fragile easy to break human bones? Like say an ogre's bones...or a cyclops but that might just be reading too much into the shape of the ocular socket and how centered directly over what I ASSUME to be its nose is.

Oh man. I love puzzles like this that require lateral thinking. Has anybody encountered that puzzle with the teeth in a sack and the sundials?

Or the old classic. If everything in the room is made of some incredible, super hard material, and you can't pick the lock, how do you get out? You grab something made of that material and start digging. Slow, but it's damn near guaranteed.

reminds me of how I managed to beat a kind of OP monster in 3.5e Iron Heroes. My character had a class that gave him a wildcard perk, and found that there were statues in the room with giant stone spears. I decide I want one, so I pry it from the hands of one of the load-bearing statues (go me for being a genius). Later, during an attempt to open a locked door on the other side, someone sets off a trap, only two non-load bearing statues present in the room come to life. While everyone focused the other one, I pulled out my stone spear, used my wildcard feat to take proficiency in it, and proceeded to do all but 2 points of damage to destroy one of the statues by myself over the course of the battle, while the other took 3 of the other 4 members of the party working together to try and boost damage (was a useful mix of "I'm using the same hardened marble-like material that you're made of to break you! and having knowledge-architecture to give me a bonus according to the DM.) I got to keep the spear, in SPITE of a few sunder attempts by said statue. Was -hilarious-.

Well if you're doing that much metamagic, you should be epic level... so add on Intensify instead of Maximize.
