This is why the rules on NPC wages are so borked, that bag of tomatoes is about 1 months pay for an unskilled worker.

Now you just need a bushel of rice or barley, and beans. Can we hunt up some owlbear meat? good. Next, we just need some spices. yessssss, this will do nicely.

You can have a nice pot of chili with this.

Hmm, the title really reminds me of a funny college humor video. RPG Heroes are Jerks. I'm too lazy to provide a link.

On the flip side, the sad part is I have players that would seriously consider burning their farm down, but only after looting it of anything deemed valuable first.

of course they would, that the first of "the seventy maxims of maximally effextive mercenaries"
Pillage, then burn

Everybody knows that, if an NPC can only pay you with a single bag of Tomatoes, then somewhere down the line will be another NPC who absolutely needs a single bag of tomatoes, and will refuse to give you the absolutely essential Bucket of Tripe that you need to trade the with the only NPC who possesses the Sack of Millet, which is necessary for you to feed to the Greater Dire Cow that guards the Treasure Cave of Pha'at Luut.

Or you have a Jerk DM who doesn't believe in Loot to the point where ECL 16 pc's are still using non magic weapons and armor [/bitter]
